Advice & Resources For Allies

It is a big step for someone to come out, so, give them time to breathe.

You don’t need special skills to be a good friend or parent to an LGBTQIA+ person. Valuable skills like the ability to listen, providing a hug when someone is hurting, or being able to offer good advice, are important whatever someone’s identity.

Hearing about the experiences other parents/ family members can help if you are feeling unsure about how to react or support your loved one. The Families Together London is a support group for the families of LGBT people and has a selection of first person stories: https://www.familiestogetherlondon.com/our-stories-home
